Hi, i have finished my m52 conversion to my 93 e30 320 convertible a month ago and im looking to upgrade the brakes to match the power. This is my setup:
Car has no abs so has 3 brake lines going to the master cylinder rather than 2 that a abs car has.
The car has a golf gti servo
front and rear disks and standard four stud e30 hubs.

I went to fit a e38 master but realised i would have to make the front brake lines joined together to work as the e38 master only has 2 brake line attachments not 3 for non abs cars.

In your opinions what would you fit to my car to make the brakes better? i was thinking a ready made kit for the car with e38 brake master and joined front brake lines.

Really appreciate any help on this, im a bit confused as i wonder whether the e38 master will work well with four or six piston calipers.

Thanks for any help i look forward to some replies! cheers

I can tell you that the E38 25mm master cylinder is hopeless with the standard E30 brakes - almost dangerous when coupled with the smaller servo.

Pop over to the www.e30zone.net and search for the WMS kits. They do a 4 pot kit with 280mm front discs (designed to fit the 15" BBS wheel) and a 300mm kit for 16" or larger wheels. Most importantly, they are both designed for the standard E30 master cylinder.

Or, check out www.300mm.de. They do some nice kits using various discs but with sliding calipers - from memory Audi TT discs with 5 series calipers is one option, although they can restrict wheel choice.

thanks very much for your reply, i have just enquired about a set of 6 pot k sport brakes with braided brake lines. I have 17 inch wheels so i can get fairly large brakes under the wheels.

Depending on your spoke clearance..

You will limit wheel choice more with 4 pots, due to the depth of the caliper

Yeah i thought that might be an issue, i have some templates to check if the 6 pot brakes will clear the wheels, just got to get the car in at some point to check!

Don't know if this is of any use, but i'm using wilwood 4pots and two piece discs bought from rally design which are now located in Whitstable Kent,
I plan on upgrading the slave cylinder as 4 pots do require more fluid transfer, Their catalogue is quite helpful and explains all the technical stuff.

Just got the 4pots running on the standard system at the mo, they are good, however there could be some improvement still, i owned a seat ibiza cupra sport once and the brakes on that were unbelievable, it felt you were being sucked into the tarmac! since then every cars brakes have felt shite!  Sad
