Project Build Diary

10th February '08

RWYB day at Santa Pod. Just a grudge match bit of fun with some friends. Traction was appaling and my first 1/8th was much worse than the last visit. My terminal and 2nd 8th were better though, I think the new fuel pump is doing its job. I couldn't match the 14.2 ET of last time, my best being a 14.3 @ 99.77MPH.

Rolling road power run at Circuit Motors, Castle Coombe. Figures are up slightly - 226bhp and 213lbft which reflects the difference I've felt since fitting the new fuel pump.



The original plan was to get the car remapped but various factors meant I returned home without the work being carried out. Initial indications however are that there's probably a good gain still to be achieved by optimising the fueling and ignition timing.

15th March '08

E32 750i brake mastercylinder fitted to improve the pedal feel. I also took the opportunity to fit the Goodridge braided brake hoses to the rear while I was flushing the system. The fluid was replaced with ATE superblue thanks to Ian Haynes. I'd actually set out to buy some but the usual places no longer stocked it. A call to Ian to ask if he knew any other local suppliers in our area turned into Ian mentioning he had some 'in stock' in his garage and offering it up for the cause. Hero.







Despite the heavens opening and me getting a thorough soaking the job was pretty easy and a success. The E32 mastercylinder is physically the same dimensions as the E30 one so the brake pipes etc needed no modification and it was essentially a straight swap. Pedal feel is now much improved and I have more confidence in the brakes.
